The Present Progressive (also called Present Continuous) is used to talk about actions that are happening right now or around the current time.
How to Form It
Structure:
Subject + am/is/are + verb + -ing
Examples:
I am reading a book.
She is cooking dinner.
They are studying for an exam.
When to Use It
Actions happening now:
→ He is talking on the phone.
Temporary actions:
→ I am living with my friend this month.
Future arrangements (plans):
→ We are meeting tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ She cooking dinner.
✅ She is cooking dinner.
❌ They are play football.
✅ They are playing football.
Quick Tip
Some verbs (like know, want, like, understand) are not normally used in the progressive form.
✅ I know the answer.
❌ I am knowing the answer.
